Ralph Waldo Emerson, born in Massachusetts on 25th May 1803, was an American lecturer, essayist and poet. Emerson believed that all things are connected to God, therefore all things are divine, a view that was considered radical in his time. Emerson was against slavery, but he thought that reform would be better achieved through moral agreement than militant action. Emerson died on 27th April 1882.
